What makes this ritual special, according to Carla

Carla Rocha, Head Therapist at Mandalay Spa, approaches this ritual with particular attention to the condition in which each person enters the room. During the Mandalay Spa Ayurvedic Massage, the experience begins before the touch through an initial Dosha assessment and the selection of the oil most appropriate for each client’s needs at that moment.

  • Feels that their body is tense, stiff or lacking mobility.
  • Prefers a deeper, more active and therapeutic massage.
  • Is looking for an experience inspired by Ayurveda with an initial Dosha assessment.
  • Values a personalised ritual that works on body and mind in an integrated way.

Carla Rocha’s perspective

For me, this massage requires very attentive listening from the beginning. Before starting, I observe how the person arrives: whether the body appears stiffer, the breathing is shallow, there are more evident areas of tension or there is a general feeling of accumulated tiredness. The Dosha assessment helps guide the experience and select the most appropriate oil, whether Vata, Kapha or Pitta.

The defining quality of this treatment is that it does not follow the pace of a traditional relaxing massage. It is more active, vigorous and enveloping and is performed on a tatami, allowing me to work on the body with greater range and adapt the pressure, pace and areas receiving more attention more effectively. I always respect each person’s comfort level, but I aim to create a progressive feeling of release, as though the body gains space to move more naturally.

I like to think of this massage as a ritual for anyone who feels the need to unblock. Not only a specific area, but the body as a whole. At the end, the aim is for the person to feel lighter, looser and more present in their own body.
